I am analysing a clip from Donnie Darko and seeing what different locations there and the miss-en-scene.
- How many different locations are there?
The typical locations shown in the clip are those that represent high school. The first one I noticed was the school corridor and the lockers. This is shown in the photo below.
I also saw the outside locations of the school which showed the school environment and atmosphere. This is shown in the photo below.
- What background detail is there that successfully creates the world of the school?
The main background detail that emphasises the setting of the school is the lockers. In most teen movies you see the characters hanging out in the corridor leaning against the lockers.
Another typical background detail of this clip would be the separation of cliques shown in the outside school area. This separation shows the typical school system where normally people spend time in their separate groups. This is shown in the photo below.
Finally the most common and typical background setting found in a school would be the classroom. This is shown at the end of the clip. The miss-en-scene is best displayed here with board at the front of the class and the desks.
- How is the costume used?
The costume used in the helps differentiate the teachers from students as the students are wearing a uniform.
This photo shows the teachers who are the only ones not in uniform and further wearing a specific style of smart clothing. This emphasising the separation between them and the students.
